Self Portrait

The character who has inspired my self portrait is Jack Nicholson's Joker. I find his silly crazy personality to be similar to mine and feel that he will be able to bring out myself into this project. I feel that his silly, witty and clever antics are hilarious and I sometimes find myself acting just like him. He was the first person to come to mind when I thought of this project and now he has made me excited to start and work on this project. I plan on using black and white conte on purple paper ( I'm using this color not only because its my favorite color but because its the color of his suit) and just layering to get the desired shade and tone.

My sketches are rough and not very detailed but I just wanted to get my ideas across and the feeling instead of them being finished drawings. They are thumbnails.

Artist Inspiration for Self Portrait

Rieko Fujinami is the artist I chose to influence me on my work. She likes to work with layers and different media to get different effects with her pieces. She is influenced by books on psychology and mythology, she likes to express feelings using psychology through her work, in which I find very interesting. For my self portrait I would like to really research and discover how to use this technique in my work. I'm not going to be using layers in my work the way she does but there will be layers with conte. I hope my self portrait times out well and the way I want it to.

Reading Discussion

The quote I chose is "people draw everywhere in the world; drawing can even be used as a global visual language when verbal communication fails." This quote really caught my attention because artists use many different materials and odd places to create works of art. I created an artwork on my closet doors a couple of years ago. It was created in an odd place with markers. This quote really grabs my attention because of my closet doors.
